While last week’s Seventh Floor Book Loft event was the first I’ve attended, it was the sixth wGBQ has successfully hosted! With all of the laughter, discussion and fun that was had, discussing Carla Harris’ book Expect to Win: 10 Proven Strategies For Thriving in the Workplace, I am certain I will be back for the next event!

In the book, Carla Harris takes us through the strategies or as she calls it, her “pearls”, which she’s used in her wildly successful career on Wall Street. While authenticity and being courageous in the workplace were common themes from our discussion, my favorite of the pearls were the ones on authenticity.  I loved every bit of this pearl’s chapter, but my favorite quote is, “No one else can be you the way you can; this is your source of power within an organization.”

If you enjoyed reading Carla’s story, or don’t have time to read the book, but would still like to hear her speak, you’re in luck! Carla will be speaking at in The Barbara K. Fergus Women in Leadership Lecture Series at The Ohio Union at OSU on Monday, October 5th from 4:00-5:30pm. See glenn.osu.edu/Fergus-lecture for more details!

Thanks to everyone who attended the event, and don’t forget to bring your authentic self to the workplace each and every day!
