I want to congratulate Tim Jochim of Kegler Brown Hill & Ritter on an outstanding article that can be found in the Opinion section of the July 13, 2012 edition of Columbus Business First: “Tale of two grocery chains ended badly for one“.
The article contrasts the tales of two grocery store chains that seemed to be destined for greatness: Big Bear and Publix. No doubt, Publix’s commitment to employee ownership and customer satisfaction has played a huge role in its success, and Big Bear’s unfortunate demise was, in large part, due to a lack of commitment to such items.
Like Mr. Jochim, we too have witnessed how a company’s commitment to employee ownership, oftentimes through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (“ESOP”), can help drive superior performance. Hopefully many central Ohio business owners will read Mr. Jochim’s article and consider an ESOP!
