“Men are taught to apologize for their weaknesses, women for their strengths.”
Last week marked our third official Seventh Floor Book Loft meeting presented by wGBQ and it was great to see both new and familiar faces amongst the crowd. The enthusiasm of all the women involved was contagious as soon as I stepped into the room – but whether that was due to the empowering book we read or the wine, I’m still not entirely sure. Our book for this meeting was “Pushback: How Smart Women Ask – And Stand up – For What They Want” by Selena Rezvani. Coming from a male dominated profession, it was a unique look into what I can and should be doing to not only advance my career, but increase my happiness as a whole by negotiating and asking for what I really want.
The discussion surrounding this topic turned out to be fantastic. It ranged from theoretical to real world applications, and by the end of the meeting, I think we were all ready to take action. I’ve even almost finished putting together my power point on ‘Why I’m Worth a $1M Raise’ – I might have gotten a little ahead of myself though. Overall, this book had some really great points that I think anyone can learn a lesson or two from.
As another meeting passes, I’m already getting excited for our next one. Tentatively, we will host the fourth book club meeting sometime in May, so keep a lookout for our emails with more information closer to that date. We would love to see everyone there!
