Confessions of a Recovering Tax Accountant

With the March 15th deadline looming upon us, it causes me to reminisce fondly of days past.  Once upon a time, I prepared taxes.  I had to give it up.  Why you ask?  Well, I loved the thrill of the deadline a little too much.  The last minute clients who would rush in on the 14th with a box full of unorganized receipts and ask me to help them.  Yeah, I admit it, I was an adrenaline junky.  I lived for the pressure, I lived for the thrill of filing a return at midnight…but I had to give it all up.

You see, my obsession for that last minute thrill isn’t great for you, taxpayer.  The best thing any taxpayer can do is plan ahead.  What’s that you say?  Don’t bring my taxes in on April 14th?  Yep, that’s what I say.  Your CPAs and tax advisors can do a much a better job for you if they have the time to properly advise you, consider your unique tax situation, and determine the best course of action for you.

So don’t be an enabler.  Bring us your tax documents early!
