The Winter Olympics kick off this Friday, and I couldn’t be more excited for the games to begin. I can appreciate the Olympics’ ability to bring people together, especially since the chance that we’re all rooting for the same team is pretty good. I also enjoy the wide variety of sports covered during the Olympics, such as figure skating, curling, freestyle skiing, and hockey. You don’t even have to know that much about the sports to enjoy watching them.
Speaking of curling, for the third year now, the GBQ tax department has put on ‘Tax Olympics’ during busy season. Past events have included a Crockpot Challenge, Team Trivia, Family Feud, Gatorade Flip Cup and yes, our own version of Office Curling. The events, which are typically held once a week in the evening, provide a break from tax prep and bring our department together as a group. It might be intimidating for a new staff to talk to a tax partner about work related topics, but when you introduce some games into the mix, it provides camaraderie and relaxation. The GBQ Tax Olympics is also a great demonstration of our ‘work hard, play hard’ mentality here at the Firm.
Does your office do anything like this throughout the year? Do you have any suggestions for our events next year?
