In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Franklin County, Ohio requested relief from the Ohio Tax Commissioner to delay the due date of second half 2019 real estate tax payments for 45 days. Approval was received on May 4, 2020, and the new due date for property tax payments will now be August 5, 2020. Tax bills are expected to be delivered during the first week of July. The Treasurer’s Office is encouraging taxpayers to pay as much as they can by the August 5, 2020 deadline, then contact the County to enter into a payment plan, if payment cannot be made in full.

Other Ohio counties have requested similar deadline extensions from the Tax Commissioner and are currently awaiting guidance. Because property tax collection due dates are determined on a county-by-county basis, taxpayers should check with their county treasurer to determine if payment deadlines have been extended.

GBQ will continue to monitor and provide information on state and local tax developments. If you have specific state and local tax questions, please contact members of GBQ’s State and Local Tax team.
